A historic estate on the volcanic butte of Somló, Hungary’s smallest and one of its most distinctive appellations. The vineyards, once owned by the Benedictine Pannonhalma Archabbey, were replanted in 2001 and are now farmed organically and dry-farmed on basalt-rich soils at 220–260m elevation.
100% Traminer. Hand-harvested at extreme ripeness, fermented spontaneously in oak barrels, then aged in the same vessels for at least a year. Bottled unfiltered with a small addition of SO₂ at bottling.
Deep, aromatic, and textural with notes of rose petal, ripe peach, lychee, and crushed stone. Full-bodied at 15% ABV, balanced by Somló’s signature high acidity and a touch of residual sugar for tension and lift. Long, mineral finish with volcanic salinity.
