Sandlands is the personal project of Tegan Passalacqua, winemaker at Turley, where he’s worked for 20 years. The line-up encompasses the forgotten classic California varieties, primarily grown in decomposed granite (sand), from regions and vineyards that have been farmed for many generations but have remained the outliers of California viticulture.
Equal parts Cinsault, Carignane, and Zinfandel from own-rooted, dry-farmed vines averaging over 110 years old. Organically farmed, hand-harvested, native yeast fermentations, and aged in neutral French oak.
Bright red berries, plum skin, dried herbs, and dusty earth on the nose. Light to medium-bodied with fresh acidity, soft tannins, and a savory, lifted finish.
